Lombardy Unveils Regional Social and Health Plan 2023-2027

After two months of preparation and discussions with stakeholders, the regional councilor for Welfare, Guido Bertolaso, has officially presented the Regional Social and Health Plan 2023-2027 to the Health and Social Sustainability Commissions of the Regional Council. The plan outlines key actions to be implemented in the coming years to address various healthcare challenges in the region.

During the presentation, Bertolaso emphasized the importance of identifying a long-term perspective for maintaining the well-being of citizens. With a focus on prevention, the plan aims to address the continuous and progressive aging of the population, reduce healthcare costs, and ensure excellent quality care for vulnerable categories. The councilor expressed confidence in the ability of Lombardy to tackle these problems and find solutions.

The plan also includes measures to improve accessibility to health services, reduce waiting lists, and enhance the intake process. It emphasizes the need for primary and secondary prevention, care, rehabilitation, and assistance, as well as the development of social and health services for the elderly, people with disabilities, and mental disorders.

During a joint session of the Health and Social Sustainability Commissions, various regional councilors provided their perspectives on the plan. They discussed the importance of prevention as the main asset of the Lombardy health and social system, the significance of counseling centers, and the critical issue of people giving up treatment. They also highlighted the need for clear and measurable evaluation indices of prevention actions and called for dialogue and collaboration during the approval process of the plan.
