Medicines. Here is the ‘top 50’ of the best sellers in Italian pharmacies. Tachipirina, Oki and Deltacortene lead the ranking

The Italian pharmacy industry has seen a stable market for pharmaceutical products, with the total worth of the products reaching 2.9 billion euros. A report by the Pharma Data Factory (PDF) indicates that the total number of packs sold in 2023 will be 477 million, a figure that has remained consistent year on year.

The top-ranking drugs in Italian pharmacies include Tachipirina, Oki, and Deltacortene. These antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, and corticosteroid drugs have consistently dominated pharmacy counters. They are followed closely by Cardioaspirin, Glycerol, Zithromax, Eutirox, Pantorc, Norvasc, and Triatec Hct, among others.

Tachipirina, the best-selling drug, recorded a 43 million packs sold in 2023, which is a slight decrease from the previous year. Oki, the anti-inflammatory drug, saw a similar trend with 36.1 million packs sold in 2023. The corticosteroid Deltacortene remained stable with 22 million packs sold. Cardioaspirina, on the other hand, recorded a decrease of 13.6% in packs sold from 2022 to 2023.

Despite the minor fluctuations in the sales of these drugs, they continue to be the most dispensed at the pharmacist’s counter due to their widespread and traditional use by citizens. Giorgio Cenciarelli, CEO of Pharma Data Factory, emphasizes the importance of collecting and analyzing the sell-out data, which covers 95% of Italian pharmacies.

The report also highlights the performance of other drugs such as Eutirox, which saw an increase in sales from 13 to 14.7 million packages. Sequacor, for the treatment of chronic heart failure, also witnessed a notable increase in packs sold.

The stability and effectiveness of these drugs have established them as the ‘hard core’ of medicines in Italian pharmacies. The data collected by Pharma Data Factory provides valuable insights for pharmaceutical companies and institutions, allowing for micromarketing analysis of the sell-out data.
