Migraine, women 3 times more affected, dedicated courses needed – Headache

According to the World Health Organization, it is the third most frequent pathology and the second most disabling. It clearly prefers the female sex with a female-male ratio of 3:1. Furthermore, women experience more frequent migraine episodes of greater intensity and duration and have a greater overall number of comorbidities with greater negative implications on quality of life.

Nonetheless, even in those Italian regions where courses dedicated to migraine patients are active, these are not developed in relation to the specificities of the female gender. A meeting to be held in the Chamber of Deputies (“Giacomo Matteotti” Room of Palazzo Theodoli-Bianchelli) next Wednesday 31 January is dedicated to this topic.

The event, promoted by the Onda Foundation – National Observatory on women’s and gender health, in collaboration with the Italian Neurological Association for Headache Research (Anircef) and with the patronage of Al.Ce.

Group Italia – CIRNA Foundation Onlus, will also be an opportunity to share the main results of a consensus process aimed at taking into account the peculiarities of female cycles and some specific gender aspects for timely, appropriate, integrated and effective management of patients.
