Ming-Chi Kuo: PSVR2 will be launched in the first quarter of next year, mass production will be 1.5 million in the second half of this year

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in Taiwan speculates that Sony will start mass production and ship 1.5 million PlayStation VR2s in the second half of 2022, and virtual reality glasses will also be mass-produced at the same time.

Ming-Chi Kuo recently tweeted that the manufacturer and parts supplier of PlayStation VR2 will start mass production and output 1.5 million game consoles in the second half of 2022. It is believed that Sony will be ready to launch in the first quarter of 2023, but it depends on development progress of related games.

Ming-Chi Kuo also pointed out on Twitter that the PlayStation VR2 will be equipped with six optical modules, including four 720-pixel infrared cameras and two eye-tracking sensors. The aspherical lenses in the AR headset are provided by the supplier Genius.

Last month, Ross Young, chief executive of Display Supply Chain Consultants, speculated on Twitter that both Apple and Sony VR products have been delayed until 2023. Ross Young also pointed out that until the end of the year, Sony’s supply will be very limited, so any official release is believed to take place in late February 2023.
