(ANSA) – ROME, JULY 11 – “If the United States supplies cluster munitions to Ukraine, the Russian armed forces will be forced to use similar weapons against the Ukrainian armed forces in response”, the Russian defense minister said, Sergey Shoigu, quoted by the Interfax agency.
“Neither we, nor the Americans, nor Kiev have joined the Convention on Cluster Munitions. At the same time, Russia, realizing the threat that such munitions pose to the civilian population, refrained and refrains from using them in the special operation,” Shoigu said using the Kremlin-imposed definition for the invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops.
However, the Russian armed forces are accused of having made extensive use of cluster bombs in Ukraine, considered very dangerous for civilians. (HANDLE).
