Meanwhile, Wall Street continues its fractional rise, waiting for tomorrow’s data on consumer prices. Also scheduled for tomorrow are the Canadian central bank’s decision on rates and a speech by the governor of the Bank of England, Andrew Bailey, to be followed closely after the above-expected growth in wages in the UK, which is fueling pressure for further rate hikes . Also on the calendar is the diffusion of the Fed’s Beige Book and speeches by some officials such as Neel Kashkari, Loretta Mester and Raphael Bostic.
The Zew index released today (-14.7 points) signaled worsening investor confidence in the German economy. In Italy, industrial production grew more than expected (+1.6 on a monthly basis) in May.
On Forex, the euro/dollar oscillates in the 1.1 area and the dollar/yen depreciates to 140.5. Among the raw materials, oil (Brent) exceeds 79 dollars a barrel. On bonds, the Btp-Bund spread increased to 176 basis points, with the Italian 10-year bond at 4.41%.
