Six people died in the crash of a helicopter returning from a sightseeing flight near Everest, the highest mountain in the world, located on the border between China and Nepal. A spokesman for the international airport of the Nepalese capital Katmandu, where the helicopter was headed, said that all the people on board the vehicle, five Mexican tourists and the pilot were killed in the accident.
The government agency that deals with civil aviation in Nepal said that communications with the helicopter had been lost about 8 minutes after its departure for return; the wreckage was found in a remote area of Solukhumbu province in the east of the country. In this period visits to the Everest area are not recommended due to the monsoon season, which brings heavy rains and very poor visibility. The rescue operations were complicated precisely by the bad weather.
