Women are significantly more likely to develop autoimmune diseases than men. Whether it’s butterfly ringworm, rheumatoid arthritis or multiple sclerosis – four out of five people with these diseases are women. This gender imbalance has been a concern of research for decades. Now biologists at Stanford University have found a possible explanation.
