PALERMO – New medicines for the treatment of serious and disabling diseases will be distributed by private and affiliated pharmacies located throughout the Sicilian territory, to meet the needs of the most fragile users. It is the result of the new agreement signed by the regional health department, by Federfarma Sicilia, by the pharmaceutical distributors association and Federfarma Servizi, and approved by a decree of the regional department for strategic planning, in force since April 1st.
The main innovation consists in extending the distribution through the channel of pharmacies open to the public (Distribution on behalf) to new classes of drugs included in the PHT (Handbook of direct distribution for continuity of care), taking into account their capillary presence on the territory.
In particular, the ASP of Palermo was identified as the leader to centralize the purchase of drugs for the whole Region. Patients will be able to find interferons and Glatiramer acetate used in multiple sclerosis therapies, a series of medicines for serious cardiovascular diseases (Ticagrelor, Prasugrel) and for the treatment of osteoporosis (Denosumab) in the pharmacies around the house.
