Nobel Prize in Chemistry to List and MacMillan, the “engineers” of molecules

The Royal Swedish Academy awarded the 2021 Nobel Prize in Chemistry to the German Benjamin List and the American David MacMillan. The two scholars were awarded for having discovered a new type of catalysis, which allows the use of organic molecules with a simpler and more effective procedure.

Thanks to their studies it will be possible to develop new pharmaceutical products and give life to a greener chemistry.

Who are the “engineers” of molecules

Benjamin List, 53, was born in Frankfurt, Germany, where he graduated in 1997. He currently heads the Max Plank Institute specializing in catalysis research. David WC MacMillan is the same age, 53, and was born in 1968 in Great Britain, Bellshill. He studied in the United States and graduated from the University of California at Irvine. He currently teaches at Princeton University.

Yesterday the Nobel Prize in Physics to the Italian Giorgio Parisi

Yesterday, Tuesday 5 October, the 2021 Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to the Italian Giorgio Parisi, theoretical physicist of the Sapienza University of Rome and of the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (Infn) and vice president of the Accademia dei Lincei. Parisi was awarded for his research on complex systems.

Giorgio Parisi shares the Nobel Prize in Physics in half with Syukuro Manabe and Klaus Hasselmann. The two researchers were recognized for their research on climate models and global warming.
