Pakistan, Iranian air strikes: two children dead – Breaking news

Pakistan accuses Iran of carrying out “illegal” airstrikes on its territory yesterday, killing two children and wounding three others.

Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry says it has summoned Iran’s representative to Islamabad to protest “an unjustified violation of its airspace.” “This violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty is totally unacceptable and can have serious consequences,” the ministry warned in a statement, explaining that the attack on Pakistani territory had “caused the death of two innocent children and the wounding of three girls.” Islamabad’s statement did not specify where the Iranian attack occurred, but several Pakistani social media accounts reported explosions in Balochistan province, where the two countries share a nearly 1,000-kilometer border. The Iranian authorities have not yet released any statements. Tehran and Islamabad often accuse each other of allowing rebel groups to operate from their respective territories to launch attacks, but official forces from the two countries rarely intervene. “What is even more worrying is that this illegal act occurred despite the existence of several communication channels between Pakistan and Iran,” the ministry added. “Pakistan has always maintained that terrorism is a common threat to all countries in the region and requires coordinated action. Such unilateral acts are not in line with good neighborly relations and can seriously undermine bilateral trust,” he underlined the Islamabad statement.
