Research Triangle Park, North Carolina (ots/PRNewswire)

The new director brings extensive experience in the innovation market to the company, which is developing new, natural weed control options for farmers and consumers

Harpe Bioherbicide Solutions, Inc., an agricultural technology company focused on providing natural and sustainable herbicide solutions, today announced that Dr. Peter Eckes, former CEO of BASF and responsible for Crop Protection R&D, Seed and Trait R&D and Regulatory in the Agricultural Solutions division, has been appointed to the Board of Directors and will take over as Chairman.

“We are excited to bring Peter’s extensive, global experience in developing and implementing innovations to our mission of creating new, natural weed control options for farmers and consumers,” said Bill Buckner, CEO of Harpe Bioherbicide.

Thanks to his more than 30-year career in the agricultural industry, Eckes knows exactly what it takes to bring innovation to the modern agricultural market without losing sight of the needs of farmers and consumers.

“Harpe has both a compelling value proposition and a strong business plan to develop new and natural weed control innovations,” said Eckes. “I look forward to supporting and accelerating Harpe’s efforts to meet the critical need for the next generation of Weedkillers and consumer demand for more natural remedies.”

Eckes will take over leadership of the board from Aidan J. Connolly, chairman of AgriTech Capital, who will remain a board member of Harpe Bioherbicide.

“As important as it is for a start-up to focus on what matters most, new perspectives can make all the difference,” said Connolly. “I work closely with Peter to make sure we get the best out of it his leadership and build on the momentum that Harpe has achieved.”

Other Harpe Bioherbicide board members include CEO Buckner, Kip Tom, Tom Farms CEO and former UN Ambassador, Robb Fraley, former chief technology officer of Monsanto Co., Chad Brommer, co-founder and chief technology officer of Harpe Bioherbicide, and Daniel Pepitone, co-founder and chief operating officer of Harpe Bioherbicide.

In addition to serving as CEO, Eckes will lead the company’s Scientific Advisory Board, which includes Adrian Percy, executive director of the NC Plant Sciences Initiative at North Carolina State University; Stephen Powles, Professor at the University of Western Australia; and Wesley Everman, associate professor and weed control specialist at North Carolina State University.

Providing a broad range of control options for broadleaf and grassy seeds or weeds, the Harpe bioherbicide products platform will provide new opportunities for organic farming through a range of natural herbicide formulations for pre-drying, post-drying and post-drying application. Additionally, a range of specially tailored Harpe bioherbicide formulations for pre-mixes and tank mixes will improve control of hard-to-kill weeds, including those resistant to common synthetic chemicals. This facilitates the reduction, replacement and improvement of synthetic herbicides used in row and specialty crops and in commercial markets.

This year’s BioAgTech World Congress will take place April 23-26, 2024 in Raleigh. Harpe is a candidate for the BioAgTech Innovator Award and a sponsor of the World Congress Wi-Fi. Around 1,300 participants from 250 companies and 60 countries will be present. Attendees are invited to learn more about Harpe’s bioherbicide formulations at booth #22.
