In April you should think about what to plant, but there are many other things to do. This month you can grow some of your favorite plants for an abundance of charming flowers throughout summer and fall.
Planting and sowing flowers in April – The cosmos (Cosmos)

Many gardens would benefit from these bright, cheerful flowers – cosmos, also known as cosmos, will instantly brighten up your garden. Include them in the list of seeds you sow in pots or in the ground this month. You can start sowing outdoors from mid-April. Be careful not to plant the seeds too deep.
The corn poppy (Papaver rhoeas)

Poppies are beautiful flowers that bloom in cornfields or meadows and look fantastic in many gardens, especially when planted in mixed borders or as part of wildflower beds. Poppy seeds are best sown directly on site in full light. They often self-seed easily, just like many other flowers.
Zinnie (Zinnia elegans)

With a long harvest time and long vase life, Zinnias elegans are one of the most popular cut flower families. Nothing brightens up a kitchen table like a vase of zinnia flowers in a variety of colors. These flowers come in a variety of colors – orange, red, pink, purple, white and yellow – and the blooms are huge, beautiful and long-lasting. Zinnias are among the best flowers that smart gardeners can use in their gardens. Growing zinnias is a breeze, even for gardening newbies. The tall Zinnia elegans is a timeless option for the back of the bed and the most popular zinnia for cut flowers. Gardeners should wait to sow Zinnia elegans until spring frosts have passed and then harden off the seedlings.
Ringelblume (Calendula officinalis)

Another beautiful and practical plant that is wonderful for both you and the beneficial insects in your garden is marigold. You can either sow marigold seeds indoors to plant outdoors later, or you can sow them directly into the garden this month.

Like the other plants we’ve already discussed, cornflowers look beautiful in a mixed bed, plus they blend in well and bring beneficial insects and pollinators to your edible garden. Sow the cornflowers directly into your garden sooner or later in the month.
Strohblume (Xerochrysum bracteatum)

Growing strawflowers is now trendy as they look beautiful dry in any season. The strawflower also makes a stunning cut flower when it comes fresh from the garden. You can start sowing in April – sowing outdoors is possible. Choose a sunny spot and plant the seeds close to the compost surface. You should also water regularly. The strawflowers bloom from July to September.
Die Tagetes (Tagetes)

Tagetes can be sown directly into the bed from the end of April. You should consider them as a companion plant in your vegetable garden as they are another bright and cheerful alternative. Combined with marigolds and decorative baskets, these plants add a touch of elegance to your garden.

Katzenminze (Nepeta)

Another beautiful flowering herb to plant this month is catnip. To see beautiful blooms again and again from June to September, sow now or buy plants in pots and plant them in your garden in May or June.
Geraniums (Geranium)

Bedding plants that provide color and fragrance all summer long are geraniums. They are suitable for both traditional bed plantings and terracotta pots and are quite easy to cultivate. They are beautiful when planted alone or with other plants. Hanging baskets are ideal for some geranium varieties. Plant the purchased plants in a warm place in the garden.
Hare’s tail grass (Lagurus ovatus)

The flowers of Lagarus ovatus look like fluffy little rabbit tails: they’re almost too cute not to touch. Rabbittail grass creates a beautiful, tactile border for gardens that people of all ages will love. If you plant haretail grass in April, it will bloom in May to August – it is an easy grass to cultivate. These plants are great in pots and birds love them.
