Sony has announced a new loyalty program for all PlayStation owners via their blog. PlayStation Stars, as it’s called, will be another element of the PlayStation digital ecosystem and will allow you to join for free.
Once registered, users will be able to earn rewards by participating in community events and activities, such as earning platinum trophies, winning tournaments or earning a certain number of trophies worldwide. These loyalty points can be redeemed for wallet funds or PS Store exclusive rewards. As an added bonus, PlayStation Plus members who sign up for PlayStation Stars will automatically earn points for their PlayStation Store purchases.
Sony also appears to have introduced a new type of item called digital collectibles (they have clarified that these items are not NFTs of any kind).The exact description they give is: “They are digital representations of what PlayStation fans love, including images of beloved and iconic characters in games and other forms of entertainment, and treasured devices that draw on Sony’s history of innovation.
