Poco X4 Pro 5G, the test with the company’s CEO

He didn’t tell us what the phone’s flaws are (not that we expected them), but he did tell us how the ones that come next could be made better. And obviously what they are according to him the advantages of the new X4 Pro 5Gthe smartphone that Poco presented at the 2022 edition of Mobile World Congress (here all the news).

He is Kevin Qiu and is the head of Poco Global, the figure closest to that of CEO, for a company that became independent at the end of 2020 but still closely linked to Xiaomi. And according to him, the advantages of the X4 Pro 5G are above all 4: “First of all the design, in which we have put a lot of effort – he explained to us when we met him in Barcelona – In this price range it is difficult to make a unibody structure with this care, and it is also difficult to maintain the low thickness with the components necessary for the 5G connection. We are happy to have made it ”. Then, the display: “It’s a 6.67-inch Amoled with Full Hd + resolution”, Qiu reminded us, who seemed pleased above all with the refresh rate that can reach 120 Hz and the touch sensitivity brought to 360 Hz, which is “excellent for those who wants to play video games “.

Then? “And then we made great strides in photographic sectorwith the main sensor of 108 Mp, against the 48 of the previous X3 Pro – Qiu told us again – And of course there is ours fast charging from 67 W (the charger is in the package, ed), which allows the phone to be recharged by 70% in 22 minutes and 100% in about forty “.

The defects, or where to improve

If we agree or not, we write it down below. Just as below we report what we think are the defects of this smartphone, because when we asked the CEO of Poco we got the answer we expected: a smile. And yet, Qiu agreed to tell us about the areas where its phones could improve, also in the future: “I want our products to be even more efficient in containing costs, I want us to become even better at giving customers the technology he needs, even if he is in our price range “.

Which, for the new X4 Pro 5G are 299 euros for the version with 6 Gb of Ram and 128 of internal memory and 349 for version 8-256; the phone, available in 3 colors (black, blue and yellow), has been on sale since March 2 and on that day is on promotion for 30 euros less than the official list prices.

What we liked and what we didn’t

As you can see, the smartphone is positioned higher than the Redmi Note 11 we tested (and liked) recently, but it is also of another technological level. And the qualities seem to us substantially those indicated by the number one of Poco: beyond the design, on which the judgment is subjective, the display is a great display and it is bright and clearly legible, the photographic sector (in addition to the 108 Mp, there is an 8 Mp wide angle and a 2) micro camera rarely goes into trouble and captures convincing images, especially in good lighting conditions. And then there is the battery: in itself it is large (5 thousand mAh) and in addition it is helped by the very fast recharge, from which, as always, it is difficult to separate after having tried it.

And the defects? Qiu asked us what they are, and we replied that the rear module collects a little too much dust and it should often be cleaned, that perhaps the processor (a Snapdragon 695) could be a little more powerful and that we had a few too many problems with the recharge, which occasionally stops. It is likely that it is a problem with the specimen we had on test, but which we felt very sorry about: understandable, given that in his opinion fast charge technology will be among the most important in 2022.

The next-big-thing in technology

“We will improve it again, going to 120 W – he told us – and our competitors are also trying to do the same”. According to Qiu, moreover “this will be the year of the definitive consecration of 5Gwith even more coverage in cities and more and more demand, now that people have started moving again and need fast connections on the move: more and more operators will offer this possibility and more and more companies will offer this technology on their smartphones “.

Finally, “there are many possibilities to make further progress from the point of view of photography” and above all in the so-called user experience: “In recent years, hardware has made great strides, it’s time that we can do the same in software as well”. And on this, how can you disagree?
