Scandinavian disturbance on the way, thunderstorms, hail and even snow at low altitude are expected

The weather forecast for the next few days

From Tuesday 16 April the meteorological panorama will change radically in many regions of our country due to an influx of cold air coming from Scandinavia and destined to cause a worsening of the weather with thunderstorms, hail and even the return of snow until low share for the period.

In short, bitter smiles await lovers of the sun and heat who in recent days have enjoyed an early summer phase which has affected almost all of Italy. Spring, therefore, is preparing to show its most capricious and dynamic face, thus bringing the season back onto tracks that are certainly more in keeping with the period.

On Tuesday 16 April, the shift of high pressure towards the west and the arrival of a first pulse of cold air will cause some thunderstorms in the North-East, which will then move towards the central Adriatic regions in the evening. In these areas, the phenomena may also be of strong intensity, locally hailing hail. At the same time, increasingly widespread rainfall will affect Sicily, Calabria, Basilicata and Puglia.
This will lead to a rather unstable phase which will accompany us throughout the day of Wednesday 17 April, in particular in the North-East and a large part of the Centre-South, especially in the afternoon hours.
Also pay attention to the temperatures which will begin to drop quite quickly, returning to values appropriate to the period or even ending up slightly below average.

To make matters even worse, from Thursday 18 April the cold winds will break in with greater determination, fueling a cyclonic vortex which will move its driving center towards the South from the Ligurian Sea.
The result? Umbrellas open in the Centre-North and by Friday 19 April also towards the South.
Finally, watch out for the snow, which may fall again to low altitudes on the Apennine ridge (1200/1300 metres).
Next weekend will also likely be marked by marked instability and in a decidedly cooler context than the last period of anomalous heat, at times even cold during the night hours.

Antonio Sanò, founder of iLMeteo.it, spoke on these issues and we asked him what will happen in the next few days.

Already starting from Tuesday the weather is destined to change again: a vast low-pressure area located between Finland and Sweden will be able to drive air currents of polar origin which will be able to reach the Mediterranean basin, giving rise to a phase of bad weather. Rain, strong winds and a rather sudden drop in temperatures return, after a few days dominated by largely sunny and really hot weather for the season we are in.

What will be the areas where bad weather will be felt most?
The areas at greatest risk of precipitation will be the North East and, subsequently, the Centre-South (here especially from Wednesday 17th): the arrival of Bora on the Adriatic side will in fact favor the formation of a deep cyclone which will unleash strong winds and thunderstorms. Due to the strong contrasts that could be created between different air masses, we do not exclude the possibility of extreme events such as hailstorms and cloudbursts: after the anomalously hot phase of recent days, the potential energy at play (heat and humidity) has increased ) in the lower layers of the atmosphere and consequently the risk of strong thunderstorms.

From a temperature point of view, what should we expect?
Temperatures will also suffer a jolt, so much so that they could fall below the reference climate averages: the difference could be even more marked considering that we will arrive from a period more similar to the beginning of Summer than to the month of April. The thermal collapse will mainly affect the regions of the North-East and a large part of the Centre-South: in these areas, by Thursday 18th, the thermometers could drop by up to 14/15°C compared to the last few days.
