Schillaci: ‘Italy will not join the WHO global Green pass’

The Government of Italy has made a decision regarding the use of the ‘global green pass’ from the World Health Organization (WHO). Minister of Health Orazio Schillaci has clarified that the government has no intention of adhering to the international health certificate and will be presenting an amendment to reformulate the text.

The decision comes following the approval of a decree-law in the Council of Ministers on 26 February. Minister Schillaci emphasized that the government will focus on achieving the objectives outlined in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) in terms of health. This includes prioritizing the full operation of the electronic health record.

The ‘global green pass’ has been seen as a way to facilitate international travel and ensure a standardization of health requirements. However, Italy has chosen to prioritize its own health initiatives and systems over adhering to the international certificate.
