Dysphoria: Schillaci-Roccella, table for new guidelines on triptorelin

“Following intense investigative work, a joint discussion between the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of the Family begins, promoted by the ministers Orazio Schillaci and Eugenia Roccella, on the problem of gender dysphoria in minors, starting from the use of triptorelin, the puberty blocking drug. The table of technicians and experts, whose composition will be completed in the next few days, is aimed at developing new specific guidelines, in light of a survey of the scientific literature and the experiences of other countries which, after having promoted an extensive practice of these drugs, are reviewing their positions.”

The news was announced in a joint statement from the two ministries, which also summarizes the activity carried out so far regarding the problem of gender dysphoria and the use of blockers.

“The initiative – we read further in the note – follows the hearing, at the Ministry of Health, of the main scientific societies involved in the problem of gender dysphoria in adolescents, and a question put forward to the National Bioethics Committee to evaluate the opportunity to re-examine the issue of the use of triptorelin in cases of gender dysphoria in minors. This request was also accompanied, among other things, by the start of a survey at the Regions regarding clinical and expenditure monitoring and prescriptions of triptorelin for cases of dysphoria, and the request for a report from AIFA – concludes the press release – on the therapeutic indications for the administration of the drug”.
