The 10th Arab Hearing Health Conference (AHH 2024) of the Advanced Arab Academy of Audiovestibulogy (AAAA) took place in Amman, Jordan from May 2nd to 4th, 2024. The specialist conference, which was attended by experts from numerous North African and Arab countries, is now the most important meeting for hearing care professionals, audiologists and ENT doctors in the Arab world. Lecturers from the Academy of Hearing Acoustics (afh) were also on site. The Academy for Hearing Acoustics is part of the Hearing Acoustics Campus in Lübeck, the world‘s largest training and competence center for hearing acoustics.
The AAAA brings together the medical and audiological interests from across the Middle East in the field of hearing impaired rehabilitation. The AAAA’s five partners include the Jordanian Al-Ahliyya Amman University, the British Academy of Audiology, the Egyptian Audio-Vestibular Medicine Association Group and the American Salus University, as well as the Academy for Hearing Acoustics in Lübeck. For years, the Hearing Acoustics Campus has been in professional exchange with the AAAA audiologists, including on aspects relevant to training and the mutual recognition of country-specific qualifications. In addition, topics such as clinical care, the adjustment of cochlear implants (CI) and the technical adjustment of hearing systems are regularly in focus.
During the AHH 2024 in Amman, experienced lecturers from the Academy of Hearing Acoustics spoke about practical training content in workshops and lectures. The agenda included, among other things, a keynote lecture on the topic of “Individual loudness-based hearing aid fitting” as well as workshops on “Practical aspects of wax management” and “Practical aspects of ear impression taking”.
“Our concept for dual training in hearing acoustics as well as its practical implementation are considered exemplary internationally,” said Eberhard Schmidt, President of the Federal Guild of Hearing Acoustics (biha). “In health trades such as hearing acoustics, it is essential to set the highest standards in order to ensure the best possible care for adults and children with hearing loss.”
Background to the Hearing Acoustics Campus
The Hearing Acoustics Campus is the central training, further education and training center for hearing acoustics in Germany. As part of an internationally unique learning location cooperation between the Federal Open State Vocational School for Hearing Acoustics (LBS) and the Academy for Hearing Acoustics (afh), the afh and the LBS have been teaching future audiologists from all over Germany in theory and practice on the campus since 1972. The intermediate and journeyman examinations as well as master classes and examinations also take place on campus. The Hearing Acoustics Campus and the dual hearing acoustics training are role models worldwide.
