Selection Process for the Next Director of the Faculty of Medicine at UNAM

The Technical Council of the Faculty of Medicine of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) has approved the shortlist of candidates for the position of director of the academic entity. The candidates in alphabetical order are Andrés Eliú Castell Rodríguez, Teresita Corona Vázquez, and Ana Carolina Sepúlveda Vildósola.

The Governing Board of the university will appoint the next director to replace Germán Fajardo Dolci, whose term concludes this month. The rector of the National University, Leonardo Lomelí Vanegas, indicated that after an analysis of the candidates’ profiles, it was determined that the three academics meet the applicable requirements to be considered as candidates.

The Faculty’s Technical Council approved the shortlist with 27 votes in favor, two in disagreement, and 3 abstentions.

Andrés Eliú Castell Rodríguez is a surgeon with a master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences and a doctorate in Biomedical Sciences. He has been part of the Faculty of Medicine for 38 years and has held various academic and administrative positions.

Teresita Corona Vázquez is a specialist in Neurology and has been an emeritus researcher. She has held leadership positions at the National Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery and is the first woman to be elected president of the National Academy of Medicine of Mexico.

Ana Carolina Sepúlveda Vildósola is a surgeon and specialist in pediatrics with 21 years of experience in management positions related to education and research. She has been actively involved in academic committees and teaching at the UNAM and IMSS.

The next director of the Faculty of Medicine will be appointed by the Governing Board, and the chosen candidate will take over from Germán Fajardo Dolci.
