G7, Schillaci opens the first meeting of Health Ministers: “Shared priorities and work plan”

“There are three priorities that will guide activities in 2024: strengthening the global health architecture; prevention and One Health approach for the protection of human, animal and environmental health“.

The Minister of Health, Orazio Schillaci, said this as he opened the proceedings of the first meeting of the G7 Health Ministers which took place today in virtual mode.

During the ministerial meeting, the issues relating to prevention, preparation and response strategies for health emergencies and support for the most vulnerable countries to improve the resilience of health systems were explored in depth. Also at the center of the discussion is the promotion of prevention activities throughout the life course, with particular attention to correct lifestyles and the prevention of chronic, oncological and non-communicable diseases also through technological innovation, including artificial intelligence. The objective of improving multidisciplinary cooperation from a One Health perspective to protect human, animal and environmental health and to reduce the risk of future health emergencies linked to climate change, pollution and loss of biodiversity was also shared.

“The Ministers of the other G7 countries and the European Commission intervened with a constructive spirit, appreciating Italy’s priorities – declares Schillaci -. We shared the work plan which will see us engaged in a process divided into various moments of discussion and which will lead to the ministerial in person in Ancona on 10 and 11 October”.
