Cologne residents show heart: 11,111 euro donation for children with bone cancer

In two pre-Christmas fundraising campaigns, the OKIJU Children’s Bone Cancer Foundation collected an impressive 11,111 euros in donations for children and young people with bone cancer. This generous sum comes from the hearts of the people of Cologne who got involved in the good cause by attending an ice hockey game and a Christmas concert. The fundraising events took place on the evening of December 17th at the Lanxess Arena and on December 23rd, 2024 at the Rheinenergie Stadium. Under the motto “Sweets for a donation”, the OKIJU Foundation managed to raise donations amounting to an impressive 48,000 visitors at a Kölner Haie ice hockey game with almost 18,000 spectators, as well as at the traditional concert “Loss mer Weihnachtsleeder singe” with an impressive 48,000 visitors 11,111 euros* to be collected. Over 60 volunteers who distributed sweet treats in return for a donation made a significant contribution to the success. In addition, regional companies contributed generously with donations in kind and money.
No child should die from bone cancer again. Every support counts!
The StartUp Foundation is committed to better education, new study surveys and a supportive network for young people affected by bone cancer. The so-called osteosarcoma is the third most common cancer in children and adolescents, but unfortunately it is often only recognized late and the young patients die far too early. . “We want to save lives through more attention and education on the subject of bone cancer.” said Ms. Dr. Spray master. Our common goal is to bring more attention to the disease in a positive and modern way.
Event manager Ellen Kamrad said: “This campaign is really close to my heart. Since I was suffering from cancer myself, I knew immediately that I wanted to be part of this moving initiative. Children should have the chance to grow up carefree. Through my participation and the support of my event agency, I would like to help more people learn about this important work and the foundation can continue to grow. Together we can achieve more!
