A good match wasn’t enough for the Italian, who dragged the world number 2 into a three and a half hour battle, still earning the applause of the Rod Laver Arena upon his exit. Alcaraz was solid on serve (12 aces, 68% first serve with a 78% return), giving away some highlight points. The Turin player was no exception, playing on par with the 2 seed between lobs and passers.
