The emergency aid instrument ESI supports the member states of the European Union in overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic. ESI was activated by EU Regulation 2020/521 for the period from 1 February 2020 to 31 January 2022 and is an important part of the EU’s package of measures to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. The total budget of ESI is 2.7 billion euros.
