Tech and Society – Andrea Delogu with Branchesi astrophysics: the astronomical discovery born from the notification of a smartphone

by admin

Marica Branchesi is astrophysicist and lecturer at the Gran Sasso Science Institute. In 2017, the journal Nature included her among the 10 most influential scientists. And in 2018 the weekly Time was among the 100 people of the year, two awards that came following an important discovery. Branchesi in fact had an important role in 2017 in the birth of the so-called multi-messenger astronomy: for the first time gravitational waves and electromagnetic waves generated by the same cosmic event were observed together: the collision of two neutron stars.
