The Chromebook race does not stop: sales grew by 275% in one year

GENOA.

From niche computers to the most desired on the market in just 12 months: the rise of Chromebooks does not stop, laptops based on Google’s Chrome Os operating system, whose sales increased by as much as 275% between early 2020 and early 2021.

Come we already explained last February, are notebooks characterized by ease of use, low hardware requirements and above all very low price: those recommended by Google for our country they start at € 269 and in any case do not go beyond 700. All elements that have contributed to their success: second the data for the first quarter of this year, reported by Canalys, almost 12 million have been sold worldwide, with a growth of 275%.

In detail, HP has sold over 4 million (+ 634% in one year) and dominates the market, followed in order by Lenovo, Acer, Samsung and Dell; especially impressive is the performance of Samsung, which sold over 1.2 million Chromebooks and grew 2233% from 2020.

The reasons for the success of Chromebooks
Explaining why these laptops are being liked so much is quite easy:
– because they are quite simple and they do not require complicated configurations, purchase of licenses, programs and so on;
– because they cost (very) little;
– because they are perfect for distance learning e smart working.

They are perfect for the period we are living in, in short: many families, in the United States but also in Europe, have chosen them precisely for take lessons from home, to make video calls or participate in videoconferences, to work together with colleagues on a shared document on Google Drive.

To prove it, another analysis, conducted by Idc, which reveals that about 13 million Chromebooks were sold in the first quarter (there is a slight discrepancy with Canalys data, but it does not change the point of speech), that is about 300 thousand more than the iPads: evidently, there are more and more people who for the same price (or even at a lower price) prefer these laptops to the Apple tablet.

What remains to be understood is whether it will be true glory, that is, whether Chrome Os-based computers will be able to confirm these performances also in the months to come, when hopefully we will all return to our former lives, without the need for distance learning and remote work.
