The flames devastated the cabin and the electrical system of the excavator. It was dawn on Friday when the mysterious fire was registered and the alarm was immediately triggered. Once the SOS was acquired, the firefighters of the Canicattì detachment, the carabinieri of the Ravanusa station and those of the Radiomobile section of the Licata company command immediately rushed to the scene. The first, hydrants in hand, first limited and then extinguished the fire. The military forces instead immediately set to work to try to ascertain what had triggered the initial spark. Neither next to, nor near the excavator, owned by the Catanese company, were no primers found, nor suspicious bottles or cans. Fundamental elements, indeed indispensable, in order to be able to speak, from the very first moment, of a stake with a malicious matrix. Hypothesis that, however, despite the lack of confirmations, has not been set aside at all and that would seem to be the one most favored by the investigative activity. The Public Prosecutor’s Office of Agrigento was, of course, immediately informed – by the carabinieri and was, as always happens in cases of this kind, an investigation file, against unknown persons, for damage following a fire. .
The damages, caused to the Catanese company that was carrying out the renovation of the municipal gymnasium adjacent to the elementary school, have not been quantified in the exact amount, but are still covered by an insurance policy. One of the first investigative steps of the carabinieri, in addition to the inspection to look for traces and clues near the damaged excavator, was to ascertain the possible presence of video surveillance systems.
