The Ministry of Health in Italy has issued a second circular on anti-Dengue measures as the number of cases continues to rise internationally, with a particular focus on Brazil where there have been 1.5 million reported cases. The circular provides clarification on health surveillance measures against the Dengue virus, specifically targeting the prevention of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, known to be the primary vector for transmitting Dengue.

The new directives outlined in the circular include measures to prevent the introduction of the Aedes aegypti mosquito into Italy, particularly focusing on means of transport and goods coming from countries where the risk of Dengue transmission is high. Goods that pose a risk for importing infected mosquitoes, such as used tires, fresh cut flowers, and ornamental plants, must be accompanied by certifications attesting to disinfection treatments before nationalization.

Aircraft coming from countries at risk of Dengue transmission must possess a residual disinfection certificate valid for 8 weeks, according to the new circular. In cases where aircraft do not have a valid certification, they must undergo pre-disinfection procedures before embarkation or arrival. These procedures must be reported in the aircraft’s general declaration for authorities to verify upon arrival.

With the increasing risk of Dengue and Zika epidemics, the Ministry of Health is taking proactive measures to prevent the spread of these diseases in Italy. The new circular serves as a guide for recognizing symptoms and treatments for Dengue, as well as implementing effective surveillance measures to protect public health.

Overall, the Ministry of Health is urging vigilance and compliance with the new directives to prevent the introduction and transmission of Dengue in Italy. Stay informed and take necessary precautions to safeguard against potential outbreaks of Dengue and Zika in the country.
