The real funnel that prevents the national health system from respecting the organic plants of doctors is historically represented by the specialized schools. In Italy, in the face of a high number of new graduates and graduates and a huge demand for professionals from health structures, there are few places in university structures that train cardiologists, neurosurgeons, internists and so on. For some time there has been talk of a net increase in scholarships and this year the number has finally grown significantly. In fact, there are 17,400 places in state-funded medical specialization schools for the academic year 2020/2021, i.e. 4,200 more than those initially planned and banned in 2019/2020. The previous year, however, the number was about half: 8,000.
The increase is formalized in a decree adopted by the Minister for Health Roberto Speranza in concert with that of the University and Research Maria Cristina Messa and that of the Economy Daniele Franco. The funds to increase the number of posts by almost a third have been collected in the NRP. “For 2021, the Government is making available double those that existed until two years ago and almost triple those allocated in previous years. It is an extraordinary result that increases the opportunities for many young graduates and lays the foundations for national health service of the future “, comments Speranza. Minister Messa stresses that the result comes “thanks to a strong, adequate university network, ready to respond to the constantly evolving requests and requests without giving in on the quality of the offer, a network in which we will continue to work and invest”.
The admission test to specialization schools is national, with candidates indicating the specialty where they intend to deepen their medical knowledge and also the location. It will take place on July 20 and will be a decree of the Minister of the University to define the distribution of places at the various schools of the Italian universities.
