Health Minister Schillaci Pushes for Mediterranean Diet Education in Schools

In an effort to combat obesity and promote healthy lifestyles, Health Minister Orazio Schillaci is advocating for the inclusion of the Mediterranean diet and correct eating habits in school curriculums. He proposes dedicating an hour to educate students on the importance of following a healthy diet and lifestyle, similar to the civic education hour.

“We start with the little ones, from first grade, to teach them what are the correct lifestyles to follow, such as eating or physical habits,” said Minister Schillaci. “It is fundamental to teach the citizens of tomorrow the concept of prevention. Investing in prevention also means having a sustainable health system.”

According to Minister Schillaci, only 5% of Italians follow the Mediterranean diet, despite its praise from the scientific community. He believes it is essential to educate younger generations on the benefits of this diet and lifestyle.

Minister Schillaci also addressed the issue of waiting lists in healthcare, stating that it is a long-standing problem that needs to be addressed. He is working on a plan to reduce waiting lists by combining public and private lists and re-evaluating the appropriateness of tests to ensure efficiency in the healthcare system.

As Minister Schillaci continues to push for changes in healthcare and education, he remains committed to promoting healthy living and prevention as key components of a sustainable health system.
