«The season of ailments is not over yet»

The season of ailments continues with a mix of respiratory and gastrointestinal infections. According to virologist Fabrizio Pregliasco from the State University of Milan, despite a decrease in infections, the month of March will still see a significant number of cases. The erratic weather conditions typical of this period further complicate matters.

Already this year, over 12 million cases of respiratory infections have been recorded, including H1N1 influenza, Covid, respiratory syncytial virus, rhinovirus, and others. Pregliasco notes that while infections are decreasing overall, the fluctuating weather doesn’t help, leading to a surge in new cases.

In addition to respiratory infections, there is also an increase in cases of intestinal disorders caused by various microorganisms such as norovirus, rotavirus, enteric adenovirus, and astrovirus. These infections, common in schools and nurseries, are expected to rise in March and April.

Experts emphasize the importance of staying vigilant and taking precautions to prevent the spread of these illnesses. As the season of ailments continues, it’s crucial to prioritize health and hygiene practices to protect oneself and others.
