Wismar, May 8, 2024. Senior Citizens’ Life Support has been around for more than ten years. The company brings together life helpers from all over Germany in a common mission: to give old people as self-determined and dignified an end to their lives as possible. More than 250 people across the country are working to ensure that seniors can grow old in their homes, despite challenges in everyday life.
Why nursing services are not enough
Anyone who becomes in need of care is entitled to various benefits from the nursing care insurance funds in Germany. However, help is often needed before a level of care is granted – or in addition. Simple activities such as housework or shopping become more difficult, and relatives and neighbors step in. Many seniors then feel guilty, do not want to be a burden or simply no longer have any relatives.
In order to fill this gap in care, Carola and Benjamin Braun founded Senior Citizens’ Life Support more than ten years ago. Two guiding principles run through the company’s work to this day: Seniors should get everything they need from a single source – instead of having to hire various different service providers. And life helpers and seniors should have the chance to build an appreciative and friendly relationship. That’s why the same life helper always comes to visit, often for years.
Household help and much more: What the life helpers do
Working with a life helper often begins with household chores or doing the shopping. But the trained helpers have an eye for what the seniors are still missing in life. Some people enjoy being close to someone who simply listens. Others need a doctor or a transport service. Still others want to organize celebrations at home, beautify their apartment or even go on a trip.
The life helpers are there for all of this and much more. Over time, you get to know “your” seniors better and better and can therefore respond precisely to their needs. This makes Senior Life Assistance significantly different from other providers, such as standard shopping assistance. Friendships often develop between seniors and life helpers that are very close and last until the end of life.
Dorothea Weise becomes the first life helper in Wismar
Ms. Dorothea Weise looks back on a long professional life: She expanded her training as a construction worker to study civil engineering. She then worked as an engineer in salt mining for several decades. She initially fulfilled her desire for more meaningful work with more contact with people by training to become a yoga and meditation teacher.
But Ms. Weise still felt that she wanted to use her professional time to serve other people. As an open and sociable person, she decided to make a big change and train as a life coach. As a trained life helper, she now works for senior citizens in Wismar and can also use her personal strengths professionally.

Senior Life Help is a franchise company run by Salanje GmbH. This means that all life helpers are franchisees. They work at their respective places of residence throughout Germany and support seniors in need of help. Salanje GmbH also supports older people in other ways, for example with Kapuna Senior Aid e. v.
Many more helpers are needed throughout Germany, although around 250 life helpers are already working for Senior Life Help. Interested people who can imagine working independently in senior care can obtain further information from the company’s headquarters. There, a family team takes care of all inquiries – whether from seniors, life helpers or interested parties.
