In this year’s E3 2021 Nintendo face-to-face meeting, there are a bunch of cool things that make people excited, but the absence of Switch Pro is still very regrettable.
You can’t blame the fans for this expectation, because the possibility of announcing the new Switch Pro at Nintendo’s 2021 E3 show seems to be better than announcing the 19-year-forgotten 2D Metroid, “Metroud”. Survival Fear should be more credible.
E3 is not only the biggest game event of the year, but also a month before the show, full of news about the upcoming Switch new machine, and many of them seem to be reliable. Since Bloomberg announced in March 2021 that Nintendo plans to produce an upgraded Switch model in August 2020, there have been more and more follow-up news. Almost everyone will believe that Nintendo plans to start production of Switch in the summer of 2021. Pro, then released during the Christmas holidays.
However, as you know now, it did not appear in the 2021 E3 event. So far, despite a large number of leaks, Nintendo has not responded to any plans for the new Switch.
Nintendo did not release 3 guesses on Switch Pro
Judging from all the signs, Nintendo is making an updated version of the Switch, which can be said to be almost certain. But why didn’t they release it at E3?
It is difficult to say with certainty why Nintendo did not use the E3 event in 2021 to release Switch Pro, but here are three speculations about this by foreign media Kotaku:
First, the shortage of chips may be more serious than imagined. Last year was quite difficult for the game console industry. Although the profits of many large companies are growing, developing games and manufacturing hardware have always been a nightmare, and the chips needed to manufacture game consoles have been in short supply. For example, Sony expects that the shortage of PlS 5 will continue until 2022. It is not difficult to imagine that Nintendo will encounter the same problem.
Another possibility is that Nintendo does not really need to announce the launch of new products at the E3 event, because Nintendo also has its own events, and they have a good channel between them and their fans. Nintendo can announce that they will launch Switch Pro at any time. It is completely guaranteed that as long as Nintendo is ready to share the news, fans and the media will be eager to consume and promote.
The third and most interesting possibility is that Nintendo decided not to release Switch Pro just because it didn’t want the media’s “predictions to come true” because of previous media revelations.
Nintendo’s prediction of “death in the light” is not without precedent.
Although Nintendo has now become the oldest company in video game consoles, this company often makes some surprising decisions because of face issues. According to comedian and host Adam Conover, in 2015, Nintendo had plans to cooperate with Netflix to launch a live-action series of The Legend of Zelda, and he was also planning a clay animation show about Star Wars Firefox. The result was because of Wall Street. A report in the Daily revealed that the plan for a live-action series of The Legend of Zelda was cancelled by Nintendo.
“One month later, suddenly there was a report that Netflix was no longer making “The Legend of Zelda,” Conover said. “I thought, what’s wrong? Then I heard from my boss that we don’t plan to be Star Wars Firefox anymore. I thought it was strange, so I asked him what happened and he said, “Oh, Netflix Nintendo was terrified when someone leaked the legend of Zelda.”
So, when will Switch Pro be released?
Regardless of the situation, in the gaming industry, plans are often subject to change at any time.
This year E3 came and went, there is no news about Switch Pro. But this does not mean that we see reports about Switch Pro are all false. Sometimes, game companies just adjust their plans.
However, the next-generation Switch host is not mentioned at E3, and the timing of the next announcement may have to wait until this fall. And this is almost equivalent to inferring that Switch Pro will not be available before the end of this year.
That year, the original Switch was first announced in October 2016 and finally went on sale on March 3, 2017. And there was no shortage of components at that time. Therefore, if it is announced this fall, it should not be available until the spring of 2022.
