After much clamor and media tam tam of the past few weeks, the long-awaited response has finally arrived from the experts of the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), the Joint Committee of Experts on Food Additives of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) (JECFA) on aspartame.

A panel of 25 experts reviewed all available data and classified aspartame as a possible human carcinogen, i.e. in group 2B.
