Windows 11 is coming, this is how Microsoft’s new operating system should be

by admin

The appointment, obviously in streaming, is set for Thursday 24 June, at 5.00 pm Italian time: Microsoft is ready to remove the veils from the new version of its computer operating system and all the indications that have emerged to date (official and unofficial) do think that this is one of the most significant updates from 2010 onwards. “Next generation of Windows”, in short, just as the CEO of Redmond, Satya Nadella, had anticipated it during the opening keynote of Build 2021, a few weeks ago. And there are those who, among Microsoft managers, speak of an enthusiasm for the launch of a new release that has not been seen since the days of Windows 95, over 25 years ago. It is not yet known how many versions will be available (taking the Home and Pro configurations for granted) and not even the official release date, which should not go beyond the end of the year (we are talking about the end of November), but still a few days and we will know. In the meantime, here’s what has been leaked so far. Microsoft: “P

Free update for Windows 7, 8 and 10 users

Many of the rumors in recent days concern the nature of the update to the new operating system: free or paid? The items are predominant for the first solution and will benefit from those who have a regular license of a previous version of Windows (editions 7, 8, 8.1 and 10). Beyond the hypotheses that want a change in trend compared to the traditional Microsoft business model, in short, the software will land on users’ PCs without any fee being required to proceed with the update. Update which, apparently, may require a different installation method, using Media Creation Tool instead of the traditional Windows Update.

The interface and the Start menu

“Sun Valley” is the code name of the user interface of the new Windows and will probably bring, in addition to a generalized refresh to the look with the introduction of completely new system icons, some innovations concerning the Start menu, several times object of “restailing” since Microsoft engineers started to “think” the software for touch screens too. In Windows 11 it should be centrally located (by default) but with the option of being moved to its traditional location, to the left of the screen. The most important improvement of the Start menu, however, seems to be another, and more precisely the fact of operating as a sort of floating window, adapting more easily to screens of different sizes, especially on small formats. Unofficial sources also assure that a menu dedicated to widgets inherited from Windows 10X will also be available (project later aborted, while the “Snap” mode will be made more immediate, which allows you to simplify and optimize the organization of windows open on the screen, with the possibility of combining multiple applications between four predefined layouts (just place the cursor on the enlargement button of one of the open windows and select the preferred model with the right mouse button). One last double curiosity: Microsoft Teams could be proposed by default with the installation of the operating system (likely consequence of the boom in videoconferencing sessions) while Cortana will be present in the form of an app but will disappear from the Start menu.

From the store to the management of the GPU: the other news announced

The digital store from which to download applications, it has been said for months, should present itself with a graphic revision for the benefit of greater usability by users and allow, for the benefit of developers, to load a greater number of applications (for example, even those Win32 not packaged) and to take advantage of external update platforms (without going through the Microsoft Store system). If many of the improvements of the new operating system are concentrated in the interface and in the “fluent design” that will also affect icons and animations, there are also innovations at the hardware level: the disk management system promises a leap forward in the management of partitions directly from the settings screen and the same goes for monitoring tools. Windows 11, moreover, will also bring a better management of the GPU, enabling computers that have more than one to be able to select which one to use (directly from the Settings menu) for the execution of the various apps and various programs
