Continuing its ambitious growth path, SHL Medical has acquired Superior Tooling Inc., a US-based company specializing in plastic injection molds. The integration of Superior Tooling will strengthen SHL’s internal manufacturing capabilities, particularly for its planned US manufacturing facility in North Charleston, SC, which is scheduled to be operational in mid-2024.
SHL Medical (hereinafter “SHL”), a global leader in advanced drug delivery solutions headquartered in Switzerland, is pleased to announce the acquisition of Superior Tooling Inc., a U.S. manufacturer of quality tooled plastic injection molds based in Wake Forest, North Carolina.
With two new manufacturing facilities in North Charleston, SC, USA, and Zug, Switzerland, complementing existing facilities in Taiwan, SHL is strategically addressing the growing demand in the autoinjector market. Superior Tooling will support SHL’s strategic manufacturing activities worldwide, specifically strengthening the vertical value chain of the new North Charleston location while solidifying its local presence. This capacity expansion underscores SHL’s global strategy, highlights one of its key features – full in-house manufacturing – and positions toolmaking as one of SHL’s core competencies near its new South Carolina manufacturing facility.

Global expansion of tool manufacturing capacities
The acquisition of Superior Tooling not only covers the tooling needs of SHL’s own manufacturing, but also supports the strategy of providing the highest quality tools to customers across all industries. The US company will work closely with SHL’s existing tool manufacturing divisions to develop new solutions for its global customer base.
