The first ‘historic port exodus’ is underway after the opening of Busan Port.

The Busan Port Authority (BPA) announced that the return of Singamman Pier, the first schedule of the first major port relocation in the history of Korean ports, proceeded smoothly as of the 15th of this month.

The relocation of the functions of the North Port Container Terminal in Busan Port, which is being promoted for the first time since the opening of Busan Port, involves the relocation and return of the pier by Dongwon New Port Container Terminal (DPCT), operator of Singamman Pier, and the relocation and relocation to berth 1 of Singamman Pier and Gamman Pier by Jaseongdae Pier operator (Hutchison). It will begin operation, end operation of Jaseongdae Pier, and begin construction of the second phase of North Port redevelopment.

This is a process of organic functional realignment, and is promoted as a complex process that involves transferring the volume of existing terminal operators, improving facilities, and preparing for operation at the same time.

In order to ensure smooth implementation of the closely aligned schedule, since last year, the Corporation has formed a dedicated organization (North Port Operation Preparation Team (TF)) for organic collaboration with the government and the operator, and regularly manages the status of North Port terminal relocation through weekly inspection meetings, listens to pending issues, and monitors the current status of the North Port terminal relocation. We have made every preparation to ensure that there are no disruptions in the container logistics flow, including discussing ways to solve the problem.

DPCT, the operator of New Gam Bay Pier, which is the first schedule of relocation of the functions of the North Port container pier, is preparing for new operation at New Port Pier 7 (Phase 2-5) after terminating operations in the North Port and returning the pier smoothly as of the 15th of this month.

Korea Hutchison Terminal, which was selected as the new operator of New Gamman Pier and Gamman Pier No. 1 berth, which DPCT left, began preparations for operation as of the 16th of this month. Hutchison had previously installed a signboard at the Gamman Pier (berth 1) operating building on October 20 last year and announced the start of the terminal relocation in earnest.

Hutchison plans to transfer cargo and unloading equipment to the new terminal while maintaining service continuity for existing customer shipping companies. We plan to begin sea transportation using barges in the first half of this year and complete all relocation work before the start of the second phase redevelopment of the North Port. Jaseongdae Wharf, where Hutchison left, is also Korea’s first container-only wharf. We will end our historic business run in the first half of the year.

New Port Pier 7 (Phase 2-5), where DPCT is relocating, is Korea’s first fully automated pier. Stages 2-5, which will open on the 5th of next month and introduce unmanned remote container cranes and unmanned automatic transfer equipment, will be operated with automated equipment from vessel berthing to port entry.
