This Wednesday, the Neuquén Public Prosecutor’s Office announced the first results of the autopsy carried out on the body of the 3-year-old boy who died after being forgotten by his parents inside a car for six hours.

According to the preliminary report of the Forensic Medical Corps of the Judicial Branch, the cause of death was “asphyxiation due to confinement.”

“No recent or old injuries compatible with physical abuse were observed,” the document added. It is worth mentioning that the victim’s parents were accused of alleged acts of violence.

The child remained hospitalized in intensive care for a week. His death occurred after 8 p.m. on Monday, after brain death was confirmed.

The case was in charge of prosecutor Andrés Azar, head of Crimes Against Persons, who ordered a series of rigorous measures, including interviews with kindergarten teachers and the police officers who provided the first aid to the family.

Co-workers of the mother and father were also interviewed. In addition, the judicial official requested the survey of security cameras in the area where the incident occurred.

Since last Monday, the Neuquén Justice Department has been carrying out an investigation into a possible case of child abuse, after the child’s mother found him fainted in his special seat in the back seats of the car.

She, along with her partner, had gone to work and said they had forgotten to leave the child at daycare. The woman tried to revive him by giving him water and then took him to a clinic.
