The number of motorists fined by the “intelligent” traffic light at the intersection between via Fermi – Provincial Road 80 (Ziac) and Provincial 3 Carlino – Marano Lagunare in the Municipality of San Giorgio di Nogaro, activated at the beginning of April, is growing. There are 137 euros and 6 points taken off the license, this is the sanction imposed on motorists who are now organizing themselves in a committee to protest. The spokesperson is Samuel Taverna, who defines “an injustice to have been fined at that intersection.” “The question is interesting – he says – because it was a massacre in that context, I venture to say that at this point the fines have been more than a thousand even though we do not have a reference number, more than 30 have contacted me only through Facebook people interested in making a protest, some of them have already received a second report: 90% claim to have passed with the yellow. The intersection in question has a very modest history of accidents: although it is widely used by heavy vehicles, it is large enough to support traffic ».
The spontaneous committee of fined motorists wonders why it was decided to install a laser in that traffic light rather than in the previous one, with narrower spaces and a series of accidents behind it. «Our thought is that they have installed it not for the safety of citizens but to make money – declares Taverna -. Once the working hours are removed, especially in the evening it becomes a desert and it is so large that citizens were used to underestimating it, perhaps coming from San Giorgio to turn towards Carlino. At that point a simple sign to give priority would be enough »he observes.
Taverna points out that «the intersection thus structured with the laser becomes very dangerous because if one finds himself with a loaded truck behind and stops at the yellow one, he risks being hit by the truck. The 4 seconds of yellow – he argues – do not make the entire crossing possible within the speed limits ».
Responding to citizens’ protests is Leslie Anzolin, commander of the Friulian Riviera inter-municipal local police, who points out how the device is sensitive to any speed detection which, if exceeded, sends an “alert” to the central office of Latisana, where immediately verified the video of the passage of the vehicle by a specific group of operators.
In any case, he invites citizens to contact them, where “there is the utmost willingness to listen and to carry out any technical checks on the system”. –
