The tragic incident occurred on Feb. 15 in Spalding County, Georgia, just three days after Summerville celebrated her 23rd birthday. When a fire broke out in her mobile home, Summerville managed to rescue one of her children, who was later found by a passerby at a nearby recycling center. Fire authorities and neighbors rushed to the scene to rescue Summerville and the other two children still inside the burning home.
According to Spalding County Coroner Michael Pryor, Summerville tragically succumbed to smoke inhalation a day after the fire. However, her legacy of selflessness and bravery lives on through her organ donation, which has helped save the lives of eight other individuals.
Described as an “amazing mother, wife, sister, daughter, and friend” by her sister on a verified GoFundMe page, Summerville’s love for her children and zest for life were evident to all who knew her. The fundraiser, created to cover Summerville’s funeral costs, has already raised more than US$23,000, a testament to the impact she had on those around her.
While authorities have confirmed that the fire was accidental, the cause of the blaze remains unknown.
