The Colombian Red Cross, Guajira Section, reported that last Thursday one of its institutional vehicles, a “COPETRANA” brand Toyota LAND CRUISER HZJ78 model 2009 with GCW660 plates, was stolen while traveling urban in the municipality of Maicao, in the development of humanitarian activities in the Simón Mejía neighborhood, Calle 29ª with Carrera 36. The vehicle was approached by unidentified armed people, who intimidated and physically and verbally attacked the driver, an official of our institution who was inside the residence of their relatives.

Likewise, the entity indicated that this unfortunate incident negatively impacts operations for the benefit of communities, putting the institutional image at risk due to possible misuse of the distinctive elements of the Red Cross, such as the VHF MOBILE radio and the Emblem, which are protected. by the Rules of International Humanitarian Law and by National Legislation, in accordance with the provisions of Law 852 of 2003 and Law 875 of 2004.

Given this situation, the Colombian Red Cross has proceeded to file the corresponding criminal complaint with the Prosecutor’s Office and has informed the relevant authorities so that the necessary measures can be taken in relation to this case.

Finally, they invited the community to collaborate with any information that could help clarify this fact and prevent future incidents of this nature.
