A safety plan for ceremonies at the Risiera di San Sabba – News

A new safety plan to regulate access during institutional ceremonies to the national monument of the Risiera di San Sabba, the only Nazi concentration camp in Italy, was presented today by the Municipality of Trieste.

The plan was shared with the Police Headquarters, Prefecture and Provincial Fire Brigade Command and will be applied in particular during the celebrations for Remembrance Day and the anniversary of the Liberation. A maximum of 2,200 people will be able to participate, up from the 600 allowed last April 25; in any case the flow will be regulated in real time by a people counter via an app.

According to the plan, the ceremonies will take place in the internal courtyard, while the remaining spaces of the site will remain closed. The courtyard will be divided into zones, for better flow management. Via Palatucci, the access road to the museum, will be closed to traffic. There are two separate entrances for accredited people and the public. The latter will be accessed from the main entrance, i.e. the long and narrow corridor that leads to the courtyard; three escape routes identified in case of emergency. “It is an extremely valid plan – observed the police commissioner of Trieste, Pietro Ostuni – which will certainly make us work better from the point of view of managing public order and safety. We will also carry out targeted checks” on those who intend to access and “we will go to regulate any demonstrations that someone may intend to organize in conjunction with the events”. “These are commemorative days – Ostuni specified – the memory must be respected for everyone”: in the case of a demonstration “it must be reconciled with the official one”.
