Hainan Increases Transportation Capacity to Accommodate Spring Festival Travelers
The Spring Festival holiday may be over, but the travel season is still in full swing, especially in Hainan. In recent days, the transportation of passengers out of the island has been accelerated through ferries and planes, surpassing previous years’ records. The number of self-driving tourists waiting to leave the island remains high, creating a challenge for new energy vehicle owners trying to secure a ticket off the island.
Chen Minglun, Director of the Comprehensive Office of Haikou Xinhai Ferry Terminal Co., Ltd., explained that the difficulty in obtaining ferry tickets for new energy vehicles is due to the regulations set by the “Qiongzhou Strait New Energy Vehicle Ro-Ro Transportation Operation Guide,” issued by the Hainan Provincial Department of Transportation and Hainan Maritime Safety Administration. This guide states that the number of new energy vehicles on each voyage should not exceed 10% of the ship’s vehicle quota (in terms of small vehicles) and should not exceed 18 vehicles in total. These regulations are in place due to the potential fire hazard posed by new energy vehicles, as they can easily cause spontaneous combustion and release toxic gases.
To accommodate the increasing demand for new energy vehicles to leave the island, Haikou Xinhai Ferry Terminal Co., Ltd. has added special classes for new energy vehicles. Liang Chao, Executive Deputy General Manager, emphasized that they are constantly monitoring the situation and adding special classes as needed to meet the demand. New energy vehicle owners are advised to stay updated on the addition of special classes and make reservations through the “Qiongzhou Strait Ferry Butler” public account.
As the Spring Festival travel season continues, authorities are working to ensure that all travelers, including new energy vehicle owners, can safely and efficiently leave Hainan.
