Bambrugge –

The gable of a house under construction was blown away in the Kwalestraat in Bambrugge on Sunday night at 2.45 am. This landed on the adjacent house. There were no injuries, but the damage was enormous.

“We were sleeping and suddenly heard a huge noise,” say the residents of the affected home. “When we went to take stock, we saw the devastation in our living room. The gable of the house next to us had been blown over by the heavy wind and fell on our house. Our entire wall collapsed, the living room was full of rubble and our roof was also badly hit,” the man says in amazement.”

It was at 2.45 am on Sunday night that the gable of a house under renovation collapsed due to a heavy gust of wind. The wooden roof truss and a large part of the bricks fell on the nearby house and caused havoc. Fire crews from Lede, Herzele and Aalst arrived on site to clear the rubble and to shore up the affected home. “The house was very badly affected by the fallen gable,” it said. “A support beam has suffered a lot and the wall is bent. The roof also suffered heavy damage,” it said. (Read more below the photo)

No injuries were reported, but the residents of the affected house remained in shock after the incident and the damage was extensive. The fire brigade propped up the affected house and made it wind and watertight with a tarpaulin. Kwalestraat remained closed to all traffic until 4.45 am.
