After-work market on Essen’s Margarethenhöhe starts soon

Essen-Margarethenhöhe. After the successful premiere in 2023, the Essen event is entering its second year. What visitors can expect.

After the successful premiere, the after-work market on Margarethenhöhe in Essen is entering its second round.

It starts again from Wednesday, April 10th, says Sandra Evers from the city subsidiary EVB (Essener Verehrungs- und Betriebs GmbH), which is responsible for the weekly markets. Like last year, the after-work market will take place every 14 days on Wednesdays from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Last year’s after-work market was, so to speak, a joint project between several institutions committed to the district. The fact that the start was so successful last year is also thanks to the Margarethe Krupp Foundation (MKS), which provided the incentive for this market to be “at the height”.

The MKS supported the traders at the start of the after-work market by covering the stand and electricity fees for the first six months and contributing half of the costs for a further three months.

The citizens of Margarethenhöhe were also involved in the after-work market. She arranged seating in advance – and, together with her club members and volunteers, ensured a great turnout and a good mood every time.

“The EVB is pleased with the positive response from visitors last year and the ongoing questions about a repeat event,” says Sandra Evers. People are optimistic about the coming second season, which is scheduled to start in just under a month.

The range will be similar to last year

The number of dealers and the product range are almost identical to the previous year. Once again there will be specialties and culinary delights that can also be eaten on site. There are again fish specialties, currywurst, fries and mushroom pans, Italian delicacies, dried fruits and nuts, Arabic specialties such as falafel, Mediterranean dips, olives and delicatessen, fried tapas, freshly prepared juices, tarte flambée, stews, soups, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. The latter is provided by the “Center Court” catering facility of the Tusem tennis department. A stand with women’s clothing also invites you to shop.

Partially covered seating will be provided on the market square. According to Sandra Evers, visitors can once again look forward to relaxing and sociable hours in the historic ambience of the small market on Margarethenhöhe.

The after-work market was launched in spring 2023 with the aim of giving the market, which was not particularly busy on Wednesdays, a boost again and attracting a new audience. Because of the positive response, it was even extended until St. Nicholas Day, even though the first season was actually supposed to end in September/October. The attempt to enrich the life of the district with Essen’s only after-work market and to ensure a better quality of life in the garden city was described as successful by everyone involved. Last year, long-time residents and new residents regularly met for a chat over a glass of beer or wine.

The event is intended to enrich district life

The normal Wednesday market on Margarethenhöhe normally takes place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and from April 10th it will take place again every 14 days in the odd calendar weeks from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The dealers then remodel for the after-work market.
