The Cuban Meteorological Institute Issues Early Warning Notice for Rain and Thunderstorms in Western Cuba
The Forecast Center of the Cuban Meteorological Institute has issued an Early Warning Notice due to a high probability of rain and thunderstorms in western Cuba during this weekend. The notice, released on March 20, 2024, warns of the imminent weather conditions and provides important information for residents and authorities to take necessary precautions.
According to the center’s note, forecast models indicate that an extratropical low will form between the northern portion of the Gulf of Mexico and the southern United States on Friday the 22nd. This system will bring a cold front that will move eastward, triggering a band of prefrontal clouds with strong activity of showers and thunderstorms in the region.
The notice highlights the possibility of strong and intense showers, rains, and thunderstorms in western Cuba, with the potential for gusts of strong winds, hail, and intense electrical activity. There is also a risk of flooding in low-lying and poorly drained areas as the system moves through the region.
The cold front associated with the extratropical low is expected to arrive in the western region on the evening of Saturday the 23rd, bringing additional showers, rains, and thunderstorms in its wake. The meteorological situation will then progress towards the central provinces and reach the eastern region on Sunday the 24th, albeit in a weakened state.
The Forecast Center of the Institute of Meteorology is closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates through Weather Forecasts and Special Notices as necessary. Residents in western Cuba are advised to stay informed about the weather conditions and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety during this period of heightened weather activity.
