SALERNO – During the morning, the staff of the Provincial Command of Salerno executed an order of custody in prison, issued by the Gip of Salerno at the request of the local Dda, against Giuseppe Stellato and his son Domenico, both accused in concurrence of injuries aggravated by the mafia method and illegal possession and carrying of weapons. The provision is based on serious evidence of guilt acquired by the Carabinieri of the Investigative Unit and the Compagnia di Salerno as part of the investigations launched following the wounding, by gunshot, of Mario Mautone, which took place on the evening of 24 July 2020 in the Pastena district of Salerno, a territory where Stellato is known as pappacchione and has always been feared for numerous criminal actions since the years 2004/2005, imitated in this way by his son Domenico, evidently anxious to also demonstrate an ability to establish himself in the Eastern Area of Salerno as already happens for his father Giuseppe.
And it is precisely the will to demonstrate the motive for the criminal action conducted in such a blatant form by father and son against Mautone. Through the long and painstaking analysis of the images recorded by the public and private video surveillance systems installed in the streets adjacent to that of the ambush it was in fact possible to trace back with certainty to the two suspects the “gambling” of Mautone said I wrote, a judicial police activity that has also made it possible to highlight how Stellato Giuseppe now felt so untouchable in “his” territory that he shot in broad daylight and in a public place without even covering his face, unlike what his son did who wore a full face helmet, thereby maximizing the intimidating scope of the event. From the results of the subsequent interceptions, it emerged that the attack was to be framed as part of a warning related to the control of drug dealing in the territory to which Stellato Giuseppe, at the end of a long period of detention, had returned with the intention of reestablish its undisputed dominance.
Project interrupted prematurely, because the same night of the attack on Mautone, Stellato Giuseppe had been arrested again. Although subjected to the measure of special surveillance with the obligation to stay at home at night, during a check at his home he had not been found, running away as soon as he perceived the arrival of the police patrol. In this sense it is likely to believe that the sudden escape was motivated by the fear of having already been identified as the author of the shots that afternoon, also due to the fact that pappacchione he had just shaved his beard for the clear purpose of not being recognized and that the recordings of the surveillance cameras in the neighborhood had immortalized him in slippers and shirtless as he walked away from the area.
However, this conduct could not go unnoticed, because Stellato, during this “night walk”, carried a very dangerous submachine gun, terrorizing numerous passers-by with the mere presence who turned to 112 of the carabinieri to report what was happening in the center. By conveying numerous patrols to the district, it was therefore possible to identify and surround the fugitive on the Colombo waterfront, after he had already disposed of the weapon. Both recipients of the measure, already restricted to the Salerno and Bellizzi Irpino prison houses due to other crimes, will present themselves in the coming days before the Salerno GIP Dr. D’Agostino for the guarantee questioning.
