On Friday, January 19, the Cypriot Ministry of Foreign Affairs categorically denied the allegations circulated by some media outlets and an official news agency of a neighboring country regarding arrest warrants issued against Moroccan security officials, which were “completely baseless.”
The spokesman for the Cypriot Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Theodoros Gutsis, confirmed in a statement to the Maghreb Arab News Agency, that “the competent authorities in Cyprus, that is, the judicial services and the police, confirm that these allegations are completely baseless.”
He added that the matter is related to “fake news,” stressing that “there is no criminal case and no arrest warrant has been issued against the people referred to by the aforementioned media.”
The Algerian News Agency had based a clip titled “Senior security officials in Morocco subject to an international arrest warrant,” which it published on January 16, 2024, on false and erroneous news promoted by a Moroccan citizen who was convicted by the Italian judiciary of committing fraud and scams.
