Xi Jinping Issues Instructions on Landslide Disaster in Guangdong Province
On May 1st, a tragic landslide occurred in the Chayang section of the Meizhou-Dalian Expressway in Meizhou City, Guangdong, resulting in 48 deaths and 30 injuries. The disaster has sparked concern at the highest levels of government, with President Xi Jinping issuing important instructions to prioritize rescue efforts and ensure the safety of those affected.
In his instructions, President Xi emphasized the need for all-out efforts to rescue and treat the wounded on site, as well as the importance of investigating and addressing hidden risks to prevent future disasters. He stressed the importance of safeguarding the lives and property of the people and maintaining overall social stability.
Li Qiang, Premier of the State Council, also gave instructions to spare no effort in rescuing the injured and conducting meticulous follow-up work. He highlighted the need to search and rescue trapped individuals and guard against secondary risks.
Following these instructions, Zhang Guoqing, Vice Premier of the State Council, and other responsible officials have been mobilized to lead rescue and disposal efforts on the ground. Guangdong Province and Meizhou City have established command headquarters and working groups to coordinate search and rescue, casualty treatment, traffic diversion, and aftermath disposal.
