According to several British media outlets, including the Daily Mail, she died at her home in London on January 11 after a “short illness”. This was reported by her family in a statement.

“Annie was a pioneer, trailblazer and an inspiration to many. Her commitment to sharing this enthusiasm with audiences remains unchanged after six decades of BBC television and radio programs around the world.” – said in the statement.

Annie Nightingale not only inspired musicians, but throughout her life supported other women in a male-dominated industry. She was the only female DJ on Radio 1 until 1982. The British woman worked at the radio station until her death. As a result, she became not only the presenter on BBC Radio 1 with the longest working experience, but also the holder of the world record for the longest career of a radio presenter.
